Training with Technology
Not all of us grew up in the computer age. If you're not good with computers and technology, generally, you
don't want to show it. Not to friends and not to co-workers.
All organizations have on-going needs for products, programs, services, or safety training and development. Not being able to use the most efficient and effective training methods can limit a company's success. Computer-based and web-based training have proven to be some of the most effective learning methods for ALL adults - whether they're good with technology and computers or not. As more traditional training methods and media become extinct, it is time to begin utilizing technology such as Computer-Based Interactive Training (CBIT). The first and most compelling reason to consider CBIT is that technology is relevant to today's workers. Take a look around the next time you are in a coffee shop, walking by a college campus, or in a business meeting. You'll see people of all ages efficiently and effectively using technology to conduct work, communicate with family and friends, and manage their lives. They're updating their schedules
CBIT provides consistent training in quality and information presented.
Unlike human instructors, CBIT never forgets
important information or has a bad day. It also standardizes the training, which is especially important when
working with several different training locations.
With its nearly limitless capability to provide interaction, simulations and exercises, CBIT actively engages the learner in the knowledge transfer process, providing increased retention. Retention is further enhanced by the immediate feedback CBIT provides. The interaction also makes the training more entertaining/enjoyable for the learner, which enhances the experience. CBIT is always available. Once it is incorporated, you have a trainer that's available 24/7. Unlike the traditional classroom or lecture situation, trainees can access CBIT on the job or at home. CBIT gives trainees the flexibility to complete training at times that work best for their busy schedules. With the ability to
With customized programs, CBIT ensures learners only focus on what they need to know, which significantly reduces training time and costs. CBIT can also be easily updated when changes occur.
Using CBIT helps to reduce your total training costs. It allows companies to train any number of employees at the
same time and reduces or eliminates travel costs and the need for a designated training facility/area.
CBIT provides testing along with a system to manage and compile the results. At any given time, designated personnel can view the progress and/or test results. With consistent, engaging training that increases retention and fits the learner's schedule, CBIT improves job performance.
CBIT is effective in any staff development situation, including:
• Training in specific skills. • Training in general skills that broadly affect general performance. • Providing access to information for decision-making.
